FPoS (First Person on Scene) Basic Award
First Person On Scene (FPOS) courses provide the essential knowledge and skills for First Responders with an emphasis on understanding the 'why' as well as the 'how'. Anyone in a caring, security or position of responsibility towards others health, safety and wellbeing will gain significant knowledge from these programmes in how to respond to medical emergencies, quickly, calmly and professionally.
Who should attend these programmes?
- People working in a hospital or care setting and are not medically trained
- Those working with children or young adults
- Stewards and event Safety Officials
- Body guards and Close Protection Specialists (SIA License)
- Health and Safety and First Aiders
- Any person who is in a position of responsibility to look after the safety and wellbeing of others
The FPOS courses has been created through a partnership between the Institute of Health Care Development (part of Edexcel, the UK's largest qualification awarding body) and the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care, of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.
POS courses are given at two levels:
- The two-day basic course lays the foundation for community responders and includes key interventions like breathing and circulatory assessment and support.
- The five-day intermediate course builds on these skills and includes defibrillation, administration of oxygen and fresh tissue workshops.
Both Courses are suitable for anyone with a very basic or no knowledge of first aid.
